Make a change in the school district today!

“Now more than ever the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature. . . . If the next centennial does not find us a great nation . . . it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.”
(James A. Garfield)

We call upon the Ozark School Board to commission an INDEPENDENT investigation of the school district administrators’ conduct toward the many staff and faculty that have been forced out of the district during Dr. Bauman’s reign.

THIS IS A WIN-WIN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

If it turns out that we are simply disgruntled employees seeking to prosecute individual vendettas against the administration that held us accountable for our misconduct, then this investigation will vindicate the district. That would be important for both the school district and outsiders to know. But if it turns out that there really is a toxic administrative culture that dishonestly abuses teachers, THIS WOULD BE EVEN MORE IMPORTANT for the school district and public to know. The only ones who have anything to lose from uncovering the truth about all of this are the guilty administrators who presently thrive on secrecy and unchallenged authority.

Please join us in insisting that the district commission an independent investigation into our reports.

The ultimate solution here is a wholesale change in senior leadership across the district, including all of the district-level administrators plus those individual school principals who have participated in these egregious abuses of authority.  This is not a vindictive ploy.  This is simply acknowledgement that the offenses these administrators have committed have been so dishonest as to undermine any hope that they can be rehabilitated and again trusted by either employees or the community.

The District administration continues to drive out good teachers.  Public awareness and criticism is evidently insufficient to stop them.  Until someone forcibly prevents their continuance, they will be reassured of their latitude.  When Hitler presented his "final solution" to his lieutenants, and one of them protested that the world would not stand idle while he slaughtered so many people, he asserted that they could count on the world's indifference.  He then asked, rhetorically, "Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?"  And that slaughter of over a million people had taken place only two decades prior.  He is surely right that when it comes to deliberate abuse of power, only a higher authority can curtail the offender’s actions.

Replacing district administrators will require first changing the membership of the school board.  Our present school board has been entirely complicit in the administrators’ misconduct.  They, too, have compromised any prospects for future public confidence in them.  Thus, we call upon all concerned members of the community to 1) ensure that their votes each April go toward honest, accountable, responsive board members, and 2) help educate friends and neighbors about this crisis in our schools, encouraging them to also vote for school board members who will hold dishonest district officials accountable.

NOTE: Ozark, MO School District Awareness (OMSDA) is one organization who has joined with other local grassroots organizations to urge support for the following three candidates whom they believe are committed to transparency, accountability, and integrity in district administration: Amber Bryant, Anthony Petrosino, and Christina Tonsing.  [DISCLAIMER: This endorsement of these three candidates does not in any way imply that those candidates approved, endorsed, or are otherwise even aware of the content of this website.]
